Mark Eveleigh has been a full-time magazine writer, photographer and author for almost 30 years. A British citizen, he grew up in Ghana and Nigeria and has spent more years based in Spain than he ever did in UK.

He's travelled frequently on assignments in Extremadura and in 2022 he walked 350km across the province as part of a much longer trek. Vagabond (the book about that 1,225km solo hike from Gibraltar to Estaca de Bares) was ranked among the '6 top travel reads for 2024' by National Geographic.

A fellow of Royal Geographical Society, Mark has published more than 900 full-length travel features for more than 120 international publications, including BBC Wildlife, BBC Earth, BBC Travel, CNN Travel, National Geographic, Telegraph, The Independent, The Guardian, Boston Globe & Travel Africa.​​ He's also contributed to Lonely Planet guidebooks in Spain, Tanzania, Borneo, Ecuador, Madagascar and for several books on Indonesia.
